You bring up a good point about committing to whatever religion one takes to and in the case of Leah, which she talks about, she was basically indoctrinated into Scientology when she was a kid and as you said, it was "all she knew" and therein lies the problem. Since she didn't know anything beyond what she was being "taught", she followed blindly and this is the trap that Scientologist use to get people to stay with them for years. Also, for those that don't get into as kids but as adults, when a person drops hundreds of thousands of dollars, they are more likely to stick with them to justify spending so much. Quitting is admitting defeat and deception. As I said, very good read. You won't be disappointed.

As a side-note to my original post about how I thought I knew more than I did about this religion, one thing that kept popping up in my head while reading the book and the one thing that I've always noticed prior to reading the book is that there is never any mention of God anywhere. Do they even talk about God in their church? Is it really just about them worshiping this Alien race that may or may not come back to save them, etc.. I've always looked at their religion as being nothing more than a Tony Robbins convention of sorts of how to "better oneself" through technique, yadda, yadda, yadda. Beyond that, the only thing I'm sure they worship is the almighty dollar since that's all they seem to be associated with given how much they make of their parishioners.
