Makeup to Breakup: My Life In and Out of Kiss - Peter Criss (2012)

It took awhile for me to get around to reading Makeup to Breakup: My Life In and Out of Kiss, Kind of ironic that I would finish Paul Stanley's book first given that he was the last member of KISS to release a book. But with this one, I was waiting to get that perfect deal (Brand New, First Print and Cheap). I nailed it by scoring a double auction in eBay that was Peter's book as well as Ace's (which I already read last year) for a total cost of $20, coming out to 10 bucks per book. Not bad if I do say so myself. So, in the time of waiting for Peter's book to present itself to me, I did hear a lot of negative reviews regarding it. The common complaint is his autobiography is constant;y complaining throughout. Best way to describe the book in it's simplest terms would be a "Woe is me" tale. Hey, Peter has gone on record as saying he is a complainer. But to read it for nearly 380 pages is a bit much. It's actually exhausting at time.

But it's not the complaining that got on my nerves. It was Peter trying to out brag Gene Simmons with regards to how many chicks they banged and how easy it was. In Gene's book everything he said sounded like a bad  p o r n  plot. It was so over the top cheesy, you just couldn't take what he was saying all that seriously. But with Peter, he came off more like a crass juvenile with his "I f*cked her" or "I finger banged her". It just looked really bad with a 60 year old trying to talk like that. At least Gene was entertaining, if not just outright stupid in it's execution. With that said, I would say that Peter's book is marginally better, even though I gave both books 3 Stars. I think the reason why I prefer this one over Gene's book is that we get some inside information regarding the MTV Unplugged session as well as the going ons of the Reunion, Psycho Circus and the Farewell Tours. I can only recommend this to  h a r d c o r e  KISS fans. Anyone else would probably make it half way through the book before quitting.
