Re: Chip's Daily Sketch Thread

Okay, I was a bit premature with starting this thread. I didn't realize how many other things I had on my plate that needed to be finished before I could devote serious time to drawing. With everything more or less done, I've started to reignite what I started out to do. I've spent a couple of days just doodling nonsensical sh*t that is more for getting the cobwebs out than actual finished work. Man, I'm f*cking rusty as nails! A little back story here. One of the time consuming things that kept me from being able to spend quality time drawing is that I'm also downsizing as much as possible in my life and that is unloading stuff on eBay to sell that I just don't need or want. Naturally I have a lot of sh*t and all that has to be inspected, tested, photographed, cataloged and then ultimately listed as an auction on eBay. That takes a lot of time and eats away at most days. It's exhausting and after a long day devoted to that, the last thing I want to do is draw when I have other art related projects that I'm working on.

One of the items that was in storage was my Wacom Intuos3 6x8 Tablet. I didn't even think this would be worth busting out because when I bought it, it was something like 50 bucks on Amazon and that was years ago. I figured that I'd be lucky to get 15 bucks for it now. Obviously not worth my time or effort to list it on eBay. Anyway, I pulled it out of storage and checked to see what others were selling it for. To my shock, these are averaging around $250 for a complete package, including the Original Box, which I still have. So, that got me thinking, "Why is this going for more than what I paid for?" I don't have any leads from other users. But with my tablet now "worth" something, I decided to at least check out that it was still in working condition. Uploaded all the software and drivers. All good.

So, I decided to also give the Tablet one last chance and spent a few days with it to see if I could finally get over the disconnect of drawing one location (tablet) and looking at another location (monitor). It just does not work for me. At the end of the day, I just absolutely hate it. It's not natural for me and it doesn't help that as recently as last week, I spent more time at Best Buy messing around with the Surface Pro 3, just drawing for the sake of drawing. It was fun. It was natural and it's what I ultimately want out of hardware to be use for artwork. Having this most recent experience drawing on a Touch Screen just made the Tablet even more of an obsolete product in my eyes. So, with my tablet tryout completed, I've since switched over to drawing on paper and will continue to do so until I get my SP3 (after August 31 for the i7, contingent the reviews are kind and all the issues plaguing the i5 have been worked out). But yeah, this tablet can't exit my house fast enough.

Anyway, back to chicken scratching on my sketchpad and hopefully I can shake the rust and get back into the groove again. I'm better prepared now as well. I've cleared off a portion of my desk and have my sketchpad open. This way when I sit down to work on whatever stuff I need to work on, the pad is there and it will force me to draw something.....anything, before any other things take hold of my time.
