The original run of this came out back in 2004 I believe, but I wasn't into comics by then and haven't really been back in the world of comics since the heyday of Image Comics. So I have slowly been hitting Trade Paperbacks and Graphic Novels of some of the things that I missed out on all together and one of them was Superman: For Tomorrow. Having just read it, I wish I could go back in time and keep this as one that I should never read.

To say this was and is underwhelming wouldn't do it justice. The writing and more specifically the story is lame. It's beyond boring. I don't know if the "prelude" to the Vanishing took place prior to the 12 part story arc of Superman: For Tomorrow, but we are literally dropped into an event that has already taken place. If there wasn't a prelude prior to this, I think this was a huge misfire on the part of Azzarello as a writer, especially if he is going to bog down a story that we have to figure out with tons of exposition that is just lifeless. I plowed through this as fast as I could because I wanted it to end. It's beyond boring. That's all I can think of right now. Wasted time.

So, there is Jim Lee's pencils, that's gotta count for something, right?. Yes and no. Yes, his art is always fantastic to look at and will always "save" a book from being totally useless. But, his pencils here is not nearly as good or epic as seen in Batman Hush. They can't compare. His run on Hush is like the bar that he will always have to measure up to now and his run on Superman: For Tomorrow just doesn't get there. Only pick up this book if you are a Jim Lee fanboy, otherwise, this is a Skip.
