Cause it's not just about the skills, it's having something to use those skills to say.  Talent is meaningless without content.

And I have a fear about 'lack of creativity' from the young generation that is evolving today. I've heard several conversations about how today we are becoming dumber. We rely on the internet, wiki, smartphones, etc to do all our work for us. There is no thinking.

Yet, I've seen amazing leaps and bounds of innovation and like to talk about them in our Techie thread. Because I think it's exciting.
On the other hand, I wonder who is doing the innovations. That's another discussion.

I think our kids are growing up completely relying on machines and doing very little thinking and worse, little creativity. Where will this lead. Where is the drive for people to be creative? What companies or business will help drive creativity?

That was definitely one of the dryer talks from John Cleese I've seen. I've heard a lot of what he's said through our companies initiatives through the years. Some voluntary, some mandatory gatherings. But nothing really new, unless you had not heard these studies before.

Well, I never worked for a company that gave two **** about employee creativity, so I'd never seen this or anything related to it (I was aware of this venture, though).

It's very strange that we'd seem to be getting dumber now that we're more connected than ever, you should be able to find just about anything you'd want to be able to find the second you think about it, I think the problem is that of everything we can see and hear, we only see and hear a small amount.  This should be the smartest generation on Earth yet because the minute we hear of something we don't know about, we can look it up.  It's all at our fingertips.  For example, I'm watching The West Wing and they just mentioned this little lighthouse at the George Washington Bridge, and I looked it up and saw it for the first time without even moving.  We should be taking total advantage of that all the time.

I think what we're seeing with the coding and web people is that they're aware of this and are taking advantage of it.  I've been saying for a long time that a big deal of creativity involves being aware of the widest array of influences possible.  When you take advantage of the web, you are connected to that, you can go deeper in the rabbit hole than you ever could before.
