12 Years a Slave is not a movie for everyone. It's a historical drama recounting
Solomon Northup horrific kidnapping and life as a slave. The movie is very graphic in many ways, be it violence or language. Very hard to sit through the movie because it's so raw. It's violent and degrading and will leave you in tears at the brutality that he, and all slaves went through. The movie is an instant classic and will be up there with the best of them. With that said, I doubt I will ever watch it again for the very reasons I already pointed out. If you are expecting
12 Years to be anything like
Django Unchained, you will be disappointed. There is no rising up and seeking vengeance here. This isn't that kind of movie. Not a crowd pleasing movie, but definitely one that will stay with you long after the credits roll. Worth a
Rent for sure as the story itself is extremely compelling and takes hold of you from the first frame to the last.
