2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)

The same thing with The Fast and the Furious applies to 2 Fast 2 Furious. You must check your brain at the door. But that's still not going to be enough to overcome a lot of missteps in this "sequel". I have never looked at this as an outright sequel because only 1 major character, Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) returns from the original and 1 minor character, Bilkins (Thom Barry) is all we get here.

I don't like studio's that think they can reboot a franchise, especially off of just one film, with an entirely new cast. The charm of the first one is nowhere to be found. I have nothing against Paul or Tyrese, but lets be real here, they are not what people are paying hard earned money to see. Everyone wants to see fast cars doing incredibly reckless things out on the road, which is what we get and it's good at doing exactly that. But that's about it. Dominic Toretto's (Vin Diesel) no show in the follow up really hurt the film. Sure, he is far from a world class actor, but he was the star of the original and that is a huge blow for the film to not have around for the mayhem. Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) was sorely missed by me. I gotta have the eye candy for sure. Leticia Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) is also MIA.

The biggest shock for me when this movie came out is that this was directed by John Singleton. How do you go from Boyz In The Hood to mindless popcorn flicks in just a few short years? I love Eva Mendes and this was in fact the movie I first noticed her in. But boy, she sure looked bored making this one.

Recommend only as a Rent.
