My feelings about turning the Original Series into a movie franchise is well documented
here. And it's because I have already seen
Jonah Hill and
Channing Tatum's Reboot of the series, that I didn't go into
22 Jump Street expecting it to be a direct correlation of the series. I knew exactly what to expect with this sequel and that was a good thing for me because it allowed me to just watch the f*cking movie and not nitpick it to death and b*tch about it being a straight up comedy as I did with the first movie. Went into this with really low expectations and came away loving it. It's actually way better and definitely funnier than
21 Jump Street for sure which really surprised me.
There were a lot of good inside-jokes that had me grinning from ear to ear. The opening shot about them basically talking about the "merits" of a sequel was damn funny and the best thing they could have done to start the movie off once they got around to setting up the "case". The construction sign touting the forthcoming
23 Jump Street made for a good laugh. The
NWA jokes were good as well. But most of the humor definitely comes from
Hill and
Tatum's bromance chemistry. Also funny was the fight between
Hill's character and that of
Mercedes and gave me the biggest laugh of the night. But it was the end credits mocking the next 40 installments of
Jump Street that had me truly busting a gut laughing. It's all lowbrow humor, but it worked for me and yes, I'm looking forward to seeing
23 Jump Street for sure. As for
22 Jump Street, definitely worth a
Rent. Just check your head at the door. The
Seth Rogen cameo was funny as well.
Richard Grieco and
Dustin Nguyen's cameo was a nice touch.
