A Few Good Men
Special Edition

Trailer

Having just watched My Cousin Vinny earlier today, I was still in the mood for more Courtroom action. Instead of a comedy, this time I decided to bust out what I consider to be one of the best in the Drama department: A Few Good Men. This movie works on 3 counts: Aaron Sorkin's masterful screenplay, Rob Reiner's direction and the All-Star cast, with each one delivering a knockout blow. This may be a Tom Cruise flick, but it's Jack Nicholson that OWNS it and rightly so. His monologue at the end is amazing and it should be required that all up and coming actors learn it word for word. If you can deliver that with conviction, you're gonna go far in the business. His nomination for Best Supporting Actor was justified 100%.

I think this is one of Cruise's better performance and he held his own against Jack, which isn't an easy thing to do given Jack's ability to chew scenes and Cruise's verbal smack-down against Jack in the final moments of the movie was pure gold. Electric! Demi Moore was also great as well. But it's the "smaller" roles that I really think add to the overall awesomeness of this movie. Kevin Pollack, Kevin Bacon, J.T. Walsh, James Marshall and Wolfgang Bodison who basically hit a Grand Slam in his feature film debut. Not bad, huh? Also, a performance I like to single out that was just as good as Jack's was that of Kiefer Sutherland. Talk about an electric performance.I highly recommend this as a Buy for sure.

Oh my god, the minute you mentioned "My Cousin Vinny" in this review all I could think of is Joe Pesci doing his schtick on Jack while he's on the stand.  How did that association never come up before?

That would have been a great scene between the two.

If you have editing software, it would be easy to splice scenes together and create an all new "conversation" between the two.

I haven't edited in so long.  Besides, I wanted "new" dialogue, see where they took it.  Though so far, all I've gotten is more Leo Getz:

"Oh, I hate those **** electric cars, why are you driving a **** golf cart on the **** freeway? Agh! The one thing I hate worse is those yuppie SUVs with the goddamn TVs in them, you know what's gonna happen with the cars with the **** TVs, eh, eh?  You're gonna be passing one of those **** things and the kid in the back is gonna be watching some **** japanese cartoon and the **** flashing lights will give you epilepsy and you'll veer into another lane and drive facefirst into a **** eighteen wheeler going the other way, that's what's gonna **** happen, you're gonna be a **** pancake because some spoiled little brat couldn't sit quietly in the back seat like every other **** kid on the planet had to do before him.  They're gonna **** ya, they're gonna **** ya with the TVs in the cars!"

USMC Silent Drill Platoon 4-11-2011

We get a sample or the Silent Drill Platoon at the beginning of A Few Good Men. It's a good tease, but you just want so much more than what they show in the movie. Stumbled across this particular video and just HAD to post here. This.....is.....f*cking....AWESOME! It's like watching the Harlem Globetrotters in their ability to control their object at will. When the commander walking the line finally gets involved and "inspects" the rifle, it's a thing of beauty. Seriously, watch  them throw their rifles blindly without skipping a beat and nailing it with such precision. There are quite a few videos of the drill on YouTube, but I chose to post this one because of the crowd reaction to what they were witnessing.
