Suddenly I'm getting in influx of new DVD's that I have been waiting to arrive at my
Library and today I was able to pick up
This Is the End, which is one that I have wanted to see for a while now. The biggest draw for me is of course the cast and the fact that they are "playing themselves" is an added bonus. I've heard good things about the movie, but I still came into this with very low expectations, not really sure what to expect. Having just watched it, I would have never guess how it would play out or how it would end, which was nice for a change of pace. I hate always knowing what's coming. This one I had no clue so I was able to just enjoy it for what it was.
So, was this any good? Hell yes! I can't recall having this much fun watching a flick unfold in the manner that
This Is the End does. This is a very entertaining movie for sure, but it's insanely funny. It has been a long time since I've laugh this hard. As a comedy, it works. But I think for me it's even funnier if you are aware of the inside jokes that are peppered throughout the movie. If you have any knowledge of
Superbad, Pineapple Express, 127 Hours, Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, Knocked Up, Harry Potter and countless others, you definitely will have fun looking for and recognizing the little Easter eggs.
As I said before, the cast makes it work with
Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and
Craig Robinson carrying the bulk of the movie. But definitely keep your eyes peeled for the same cameos as well, such as
Michael Cera, Emma Watson, Jason Segel, Martin Starr, Rihanna, David Krumholtz, Mindy Kaling, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Paul Rudd, Aziz Ansari, The Backstreet Boys, Kevin Hart and
Channing Tatum, which is hilarious!
I'm really trying to pinpoint the best/funniest scene in the movie and it's hard to do so because there are so many great scenes. Was it
Cera's death scene? Was it a possessed
Jonah Hill? Was it the "I'll cum anywhere I want" rant by
McBride and
Franco? Like I said, some funny stuff that will make you laugh. Be warned that this is crude humor and not a movie you want to have kids around....or even your parents because some of the stuff that's in the movie would definitely make you squirm. For me, this is a definite
Buy and one I aim to add to my personal library. I can see myself watching this a part of a double feature alongside
Superbad. Speaking of
Superbad, I loved the mini-reunion of the core group of
Cera, Hill and
Mintz-Plasse that takes place early on in the movie. The scene itself was funny as sh*t. Priceless.
