I don't think
A Million Ways to Die in the West is as bad as most have made it out to be. But I do think that
Seth MacFarlane was definitely misguided in what he wanted to do with the genre. It's just way to uneven to be taken serious. Either go the route of
Deadwood or just do a send up of Westerns and leave it at that. Yes, there were some genuine funny moments that I liked. When the joke comes organically and isn't being shoved down our throats, it works. It's when he uses contemporary slang and jokes in a time period not associated with it does it fall flat and when it falls, it crashes like a lead balloon. These moments always took me out of the movie, which is a big no-no for me. While I was watching this play out, I kept thinking to myself, if only
Seth had use
Back To The Future Part III as a reference, he could have really created something fun for the whole family. No sooner had I made the connection, we see
Doc Brown pop up. Totally caught me by surprised and I absolutely loved it. This was the crown jewel moment for me for sure. Other notable cameos of course was seeing
Jamie Foxx as
Django and
Ryan Reynolds in a a blink and you'll miss moment. I saw a few other cameos, but I don't think they added much to the movie. Worth a
Rent at best.
