Well, I put
American Pie 2 in thinking that I had never seen it. Wrong. It took a while, but some of the scenes started to look familiar and then maybe 20 minutes into the movie I realized that I had in fact rented this when it first came out. Ironically, I found this to be better than the first, but odd that I didn't remember anything about the movie in all these years. Overall, there are more laughs to be found, with the best of course being when
Jim crazy glue his hand to his dick and a p o r n tape. I remembered laughing my ass off the first time I watched it and laughing even louder tonight. Why I didn't remember such a funny scene is beyond me.
I won't say that the plot for the sequel is anything special. Hell, it's basically the same plot but with some minor variations. But I think the reason why this was better (at least for me and I know a lot of people prefer the first movie) was there was a lot less
Tara Reid, Mena Suvari and
Natasha Lyonne. Nothing against them as actresses, it's just that I didn't find anything good about their characters at all. Unfortunately, there was also a lot less of
Alyson Hannigan, Eugene Levy and
Shannon Elizabeth. But at least with Shannon, they were building up momentum for her arrival instead of 'blowing the whole wad' right out of the gate.
I think the movie also worked because
Jim realizes the girl he has been searching for all along was right under his nose the whole time. Having him and
Michelle getting together at the end just felt right and made the movie more than just a typically frat party romp. Worth a
Rent.
