Amy (2015)

Trailer

I've been patiently waiting to check out Amy for a while. Anything that has to do with Amy Whinehouse, I'm there. I've heard nothing but rave reviews for this doc which clocks in at 2 hours, but it whizzes by in an instant. The way the doc is contructed, it keeps you on the edge of your seat because you know what is eventually is going to come. With this in the back of my mind, it just made everything that unfolds before my very eyes all the more surreal. I was and still am a fan of hers, but I didn't pick apart everything as it was happening to her back in the day. The footage we get here was captivating and heartbreaking at the same time. A lot of behind the scenes stuff that had me believing it was shot solely for the purpose of this doc (it wasn't, but it sure felt like it). When it finally gets to her downward spiral, it's really had to watch and stomach, especially when you see her wasting away on drugs to where she is nothing but skeletal bones. I came away from this hating her husband and her father even more, both of who are guilty of enabling her so that they could bleed her dry. Her father in particular is probably the most vile and disgusting person on the planet to take advantage of Amy in the way that he does. Why he would do this to his own daughter is mind boggling. This doc is a cautionary tale of the trappings of fame and all that comes with it. Yes, the movie is hard to watch at times, but when she is ON, you are seeing and hearing something astounding and makes you grateful for the stuff we get to witness. A lot of never before release songs also make this worthy of a Rent. If you're a fan of hers or docs in general, you need to check this out.

Thanks Mac for starting the thread.
