Not all filmmakers are great storytellers. Literally. There are a handful of great storytellers when the story being told is up on the silver screen. And then there are the rare few that seem to tell even better stories on a one to one basis.

Look, we all know that Quentin Tarantino writes some great stories and the final product we see up on the screen is entertaining. But take the same man behind those words and have him tell you a story personally, and you want to kill yourself. He is not engaging at all and as a listener it becomes very trying...and tiriing listening to him get to the point. On the flipside, you have Kevin Smith. The same here applies to his movies, very entertaining stories and characters. But what sets him apart from Tarantino is that Mr. Smith can tell you a story about anything, leaving you completely transfixed and in complete awe. There isn't anything that he can't talk about that won't leave you laughing and begging for more.

And that's exactly what An Evening With Kevin Smith is. The DVD follows Mr. Smith on his Q&A tour, in which he went to colleges around the US to answer questions while also regaling us with never before heard of stories (at the time). And the stories are just so damn entertaining that even someone that has never heard of Kevin Smith or any of his films would still find this enjoyable. Sure, you will get more out of it if you are in fact a fan. But however you slice it, you get your money's worth here.

All the stories are great here, but the best definitely are the ones about Dogma, Superman Lives, Tim Burton, Sex Injuries/How He Met His Wife and the best of the bunch: Prince.

How good is An Evening With Kevin Smith? It's so good that the bulk of the show is pulled from 5 different college Q&A's. There is no hiding the editing as it jumps from one school to the next. But because Kevin is so engaging, the viewer/listener doesn't care at all. It's all about the stories and they live up to the hype.

This is a Buy for me....for everyone. I've had the DVD since it first came out and I still get a kick out of watching this.
