Ant-Man is way better than I thought it would be. Since I never saw it in the theater, along with most everyone else for that matter, that in itself became news as
Marvel Films first "flop" because it didn't hit their target dollar amount. I really don't like how these suits come up with these numbers arbitrarily and then call a film a failure when they set unrealistic goals that can't be matched. Just because you slap the
Marvel Logo on something doesn't mean it's going to do what you want it to do. For starters, this isn't just a second tier character, it's a third tier. It's about name recognition and
Ant-Man doesn't have a huge following like say
Iron Man, Captain America or
The Hulk. Seriously, what the f*ck did they really expect to get from an unknown entity here? This is all I heard about
Ant-Man in the time it dropped to the time it finally ended up in my hands as a DVD. I figured it was weak and went into this thinking it was going to suck. This couldn't be further off the mark. If anything, this was a fun 2 hour trip that reminded me a lot of
Honey I Shrunk the Kids and
Toy Story at the end. The movie doesn't take itself all that serious and is very playful with plenty of humor along the way with
Michael Pena providing a lot of the laughs.
Paul Rudd is great in the lead role. I actually can't wait to see what they can do with the sequel. The FX were amazing here. Highly recommend this as a
Rent.
