Bad Boys - Special Edition

Trailer

I haven't watched Bad Boys in years. It has to be at least over 10 years and now I remember why its been so long. It's just not as good as some people like to make it out to be. There are some funny moments sure, but at the end of the day I just don't think it's that good of a movie. I won't go down the usual road of pointing the finger at Michael Bay, but he does have to share some of the blame for why I have a negative reaction to most of this one. I just don't like his mentality of how he directs his films. I can get past all his crane and dolly shots that he has been fixated on for years, if only he can craft a film that has a worthy story to go with it. This one does not. It's your basic "Cops must stop a  h e r o in  buy" plot. It's been done a million times before and most others have done it better. I'm really not a fan of Téa Leoni acting in this one either. It was wooden and just bad all around.

Okay, now for the good. Martin Lawrence and Will Smith do have good onscreen chemistry for sure, but it was Martin that steals all the scenes they share and he did have some very funny scenes that are quite memorable and the hallmark of his career. Will Smith on the other hand was playing the "cool" cop and really didn't get to shine on his own. Truth be told, Martin was carrying him in this film.

How long has it been since I've seen this? For starters I had completely forgotten that Marg Helgenberger was even in this one at all. She looks like a pre-teen girl in this one. I can't believe how much different she looks in the time this movie originally came out. It's like she isn't even the same person anymore. And I don't even remember Frank John Hughes even being in this one at all. The Fu Manchu threw me off at first.

This is worth a Rent, but nothing more, even though I own the DVD.

I'd say a rent and that's basing it on kind of remembering it from many years ago. I can't remember if this is before or after I started to despise Martin Lawrence. Well, today, I just don't think he's funny. Maybe like Eddie Murphy he had some funny stuff to watch, but I can't really remember it that well. Sad.

Other than Nothing To Lose, which is an absolute must-see, Martin Lawrence's career has been free failling for years.
