I was certain that I had given this another shot on VHS. But now that I think about it, I haven't seen Batman Forever since it came out in theaters. I do remember hating this movie intensely. Watching it now, I remember nothing from my one and only viewing. About the only thing I remember was Kiss From A Rose by Seal. That's it. So, is this movie as bad now, 17 years later? I dunno to be honest. I certainly don't hate it as before, but it's still not that good of a movie. But I have both
Batman and
Batman Returns still fresh in my mind and naturally I am comparting the 3 films and trying to put them all into context with each other.
There is good and bad with
Batman Forver. The good is that the action sequences are way better than anything seen in
Batman or
Batman Returns. But just because I say it's better doesn't mean that they are good. It's passable for the time it came out. Now for the Bad:
Joel Schumacher and everything else that he did with this film is laughable. The biggest blunder of course is adding nipples to both the
Batsuit and
Robin's costume. Why? Also, he sure does have a hard-on for neon lights. He definitely left his mark by changing the color palette from the "dark" films that came before and made this one a big budget version ot the TV Series. It's all about how many colors he could throw up on the screen.
I hated
Tommy Lee Jones as
Two-Face then and now. I hated
Jim Carrey as the
Riddler then.....but I actually found him to be a fun character to watch this time around in spite of him basically doing
Ace Ventura here. I love
Drew Berrymore, but I had totally forgotten that she was even in this one. Same for
Debi Mazar. They both looked incredibly hot. Yummy.
So, is this a good movie? Not really. But compared to the dull movies of the first two, this was something I could get through without yawning. I say this is a
Rent at best. Nothing more.
