Ghostbusters

Trailer

I've only seen a handful of movies that were technically released in 2016 and without seeing a lot of those flicks, I can safely say Ghostbusters is the worst movie to come out this year. This was complete and utter sh*t from start to finish. I had zero interest in seeing this when this was first announced. I didn't even give a rats ass that the surviving stars would have cameos in this "Reboot". There was just something rubbing me the wrong way in how Hollywood was going about giving the franchise new life. The only reason why I even bothered to put this on my wait list is that there were literally 200 people ahead of me. I figured since it would be 3-4 months before the DVD came to my Library, maybe, just maybe I would warm up to the idea of checking this out. Nope. Still didn't want to see this. I actually sat on the DVD trying to muster up enthusiasm for the last couple of days....willing myself to watch this.

I caved in and relented to the temptation and I'm wishing that I was stronger than that because I just wasted 2 hours of my life that I will never get back. Granted, when I hit play on the DVD player, I was determined to keep an open mind and let any preconceived bias I may have had and put that aside and give this a chance. Nope. I knew within the first 10 minutes this was going to be horsesh*t and that was even before any of the Main Leads were even on screen. And there is my biggest problem with the movie....that and the horrible writing. I'm a big fan of  Kristen Wiig and love most everything she has done. So, they had that going in their favor. I'm also a fan of  Melissa McCarthy, but lets be honest, most of her movies suck through no fault of her own. But she has to carry the burden of picking sh*tty movies that she is in. But I like her and figured that too would be a plus here. And now it's down to Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, both of which I couldn't stand coming into the movie. Coming out of the movie and I'm left wondering how they have remained employed on SNL or anywhere for that matter. Truly awful and mind-numbing performances by both.

And what about the cameos of the original cast? Any good? Meh. Each came on and had their little scenes and then they were gone. I will say that out of the bunch, I thought Ernie Hudson's was the "best". But like the movie itself, their turns are forgettable. There isn't one redeeming thing about this flick at all. I didn't laugh once. Worse than that, I was bored beyond tears. The other thing that I knew when I first heard about this Reboot and why it would fail is that what made the original Ghostbusters what it was had to do with the cast chemistry. They alone made the flick. It had nothing to do with Ghost and everything to do with how they fed off each other. But even that couldn't be sustained (check Ghostbusters 2 for ample evidence in their failure there). Now Hollywood suits and wondering why this new cast failed? They aren't even in the same league. Definitely Skip this turd, unless you like self-inflicted torture.

I couldn't have written a better or accurate review of Ghostbusters. I remember very little of this. I'm pretty sure I never finished it... because of the reasons you stated.

I can't believe they already are in talks for a number of sequels.

My theory is that a majority of those that know the original, had little interest in this. And the folks that are keeping SNL and it's brand of humor alive, provided the support for this crap.
