Lockout
Unrated Edition

Trailer

So, the other day I was looking specifically for Luc Besson films at the Library and Lockout caught my attention. Not for anything on the cover but for the simple fact that I had never heard anything about it at all. No trailers or print ads of any kind. So, naturally I had to see this. I've always liked Guy Pearce in pretty much everything he has been in. Throw in Maggie Grace who is very easy on the eyes and you see why I wanted to check this out. With that said, I wasn't expecting much from this movie at all so my expectations were fairly low.

The movie pays a huge debt to Escape from New York. It's pretty much the same plot. The only difference is that instead of New York, Guy has to somehow sneak into (onto) a floating Maximum Security Prison to rescue the President's Daughter as played by Maggie. There is some "subplot" or better yet a MacGuffin regarding a Briefcase that really doesn't add much to the overall story. Overall, the movie is decent. FX were okay. Simple, easy to follow plot. Best thing about Lockout is definitely Pearce who has a witty comeback or quip for every situation. The movie isn't original but it's still worth a Rent. So, was this ever released in theaters? Or is this another Direct-to-DVD release, which I suspect it to be.

It might have had a brief theatrical window, but I think it was actually a foreign film (the French make their TV shows in English, for crying out loud).  I remember seeing trailers and commercials for it.

Oh yea, I remember this well with the trailers and ads. Because I thought it was my kind of movie. It is, but not great or bad. Really meh and not much to remember.
