Season 3 is another superb addition for
Battlestar Galatica. When you think of this season, you automatically go right to the monumental
Season Finale, which was a whopper of a cliffhanger if there ever was. Seems like I say that about every cliffhanger for
BSG. But before we get to that, I gotta bring up a couple of key moments that makes this a must-watch season for me and for anyone that loves their Sci-Fi. I love that the start of this season was more boots on the ground military than the typical aerial space fights. It was a nice change of pace and it gave the writers something else to tackle and that was Loyalty vs Self-preservation. It poses the question of what exactly one would do if faced with annihilation and in the case of
Baltar, he has to make a decision of sacrificing a few for the greater good. Naturally his actions are going to be viewed as traitorous to everyone else. This eventually leads to his Trial and I'm a sucker for courtroom drama's.
The other thing that was huge was of course the death of
Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace. Because
Kara was very integral to the series up to this point, I had totally demised the idea they would ever kill her off. So when the moment actually happened, it was a punch to the gut and took me totally by surprise. The aftermath of the moment serves up another heartbreaking scene for both
Lee Adama and
Admiral Adama and the pain of what they had lost. We all felt it because every fanboy was in love with the character.
That leads us to the
Season Finale and the reveal of
Four of the
Final Five Cylons. When it finally played it itself out, that too left me speechless. But as good as that was. The 'oh f*ck' comes at the end when
Starbuck is revealed to be "alive". Sure, in hindsight, I know she isn't. But when this aired, it floored me and just reaffirmed what I knew all along.....that
BSG f*cking ruled because they were breaking all the rules and it's still why I hold the series very high. Another thing I enjoyed was the fact that they finally dealt with Class Warfare which is always something I think of when the bulk of society takes place within a fleet. I highly recommend this season as a must-
Buy.
