Pee-wee's Big Adventure

Trailer

The plot doesn't get any simpler than a 'Boy searching for his Bike'. And by 'Boy', I mean Man-Child. By 'Man-Child', I mean Pee-wee Herman. By Pee Wee Herman, I mean bad-ass Rockstar Paul Reubens. I became a fan of his when his HBO Special The Pee Wee Herman Show originally debuted on the cable channel. So I was very aware of and following the progression of Pee-wee's Big Adventure during principal photography. This was definitely one of my most eagerly awaited films that year and I couldn't have been more pleased and happy with the final product. It was everything that I had hoped it would be.

This is definitely a guilty pleasure movie of mine that I still watch a lot and it never gets old for me. All the jokes still work and give me a good laugh in the process. You can't take this film too seriously. It's meant to be a joyful ride (pun intended) with it's absurd set ups, with a quirky style that permeates the film by the only director that could pull it off: Tim Burton. But the thing about the set ups, they are constructed in a way to move the story along while also giving Pee-wee a chance to put in some of his famous sight gags, jokes and comebacks that he had made popular years before the movie was even an idea.

My favorite thing about this movie is actually tied in with my Grandma. About 7-8 years ago, the family got together to watch a movie and I chose this one in particular. We didn't know how she would react to Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. She had a certain taste for films, namely old school, black and white flicks. So, we were actually stunned that not only did she love the movie, but she laughed at all the jokes and had a smile on her face the entire time. I actually didn't watch the movie much that night as I spent the entire looking at her to see what he reaction would be for each scene. It was awesome. I own this one for sure. So, definitely a Buy. Go get it now!!!!

Also, keep an eye out for his Pee-wee Herman Show players featuring John Paragon, Lynne Marie Stewart and Phil Hartman in cameo roles.

Oh, I need to watch this again, it's been long enough that I forgot a lot about it.

Now I don't think I can think of this movie without thinking of my sister: she had a quick cameo in Country Strong but since she's not SAG they had to dub her voice over so it's like Pee-Wee's cameo in the movie-within-the-movie.  That's all I could think about when she told me about it.

Of course, you also have to remember...

I've never seen that episode of TRS. Remember, it got pulled before I could hit the earliest stuff. Thanks for posting! Gonna check it out now. And what's this about your sister? Is her scene at least on YouTube to point her out?

Well, my sister works on movie crews here in town so she's constantly popping up on camera in the background.  I haven't seen her "Country Strong" scene yet but she'd keep getting a call whenever it would pop on HBO from someone who knows her.  She's DGA now, which is awesome.  If you wanna get a good (though unflattering) look at her, you should check out Superzeroes (you should check it out anyway cause it's awesome), she's in the music video at the end.  She tried to get me in the flick but the schedule didn't work out, I did watch them shoot a scene, though.
