I'm a huge fan of War/Military films like
Black Hawk Down. As great as
Saving Private Ryan is and I love that movie, for me
Black Hawk Down is THE greatest War movie ever put to film. I think the reason why it has a slight edge over
Ryan is the fact that it all takes place in a single day, inside an 8 block radius. It's the claustrophobic atmosphere that ramps up the intensity of what is happening on the screen. This movie is a roller coaster ride of adrenaline and emotion that really never lets up. It's also my favorite
Ridley Scott movie as well.
In the hands of anyone else, this could have turned into a Hollywood cliche of tripe, regurgitated scenes from other war films. But in the hands of
Ridley, we get a surreal account of what it's truly like to be in a war with nothing but a bad ending on the horizon. The film looks absolutely amazing. I really love the color palette that he settled on to give it that dark and gritty feel to it. Also, the Sound FX editing was phenomenal. If you want something to show off your surround sound system, THIS is the one to get.
Amazing cast. One of the best ever assembled.
Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore, Jason Isaacs, William Fichtner, Sam Shepard and
Eric Bana were standouts in a sea of great performances. What's funny is that I have seen this movie at least 20 times if not more and I just NOW recognized that
Brian Van Holt was in this one. He is best known as
Bobby from
Cougar Town.I highly, HIGHLY recommend this as a
Buy. The
3 Disc Deluxe Edition is worth every penny.
