Black Mass begins and ends with
Johnny Depp. His performance was extraordinary. One of the best performances I've ever seen from him. Whenever he is on screen, you are drawn and compelled to see what
Depp does with the character. Sadly, that's pretty much all the movie offers up. The story itself was kind of all over the place. The secondary characters didn't reveal much in the way of background information. I still don't know anything about any of them other than they were loyal and killed for him before they all started cutting deals to save themselves. What was more surprising for me was how much screen time was devoted to the corrupt FBI agent
Connolly that let
Whitey Bulger continue to do what he does.....kill. Even with the amount of screen time he got, I still don't know much about him. The End Credit epilogue was kind of the best thing about the flick as it gave us an update of where they are today. It was a decent flick, just not worthy of the high praise it has gotten. Second-rate
Goodfellas. Worth a
Rent if you like the Crime/Gangster genre.
