Blade
New Line Platinum Series

Trailer

Blade was one of a the first batch of DVD's I ever owned on the new format and I use to watch this one with great regularity back in the day. I've seen the movie so many times that there really isn't anything left in the movie to surprise me. I think that's why over the last 10 years or so, I've maybe watched Blade 4-5 times max. I still think it's a fantastic movie with Wesley Snipes in the title role as the "Vampire Slayer". You know, the movie and the character harkens more toward the Superhereo Genre than a typical Vampire flick and I think that's why it appealed me when it came out.

Visually I love the look of the movie and it reminds me a great deal of Dark City, which ironically came out the same time. The look did manifest itself in Underworld, but a lot of blues to it. The editing is great too, which keeps the tempo moving along, even during the "slow" talky scenes. Overall, Blade is a great flick and always enjoy it when I do get around to watching it. I'm not a fan of Stephen Dorff, but even he manages to do something in this movie that he rarely does in his other flicks, and that's entertain. And Kris Kristofferson is great in the role of Whistler. I always wanted and hoped that Kris would get his own spin-off and do a Blade Prequel, starting with the time he finds Blade and then raises him. Oh well.....Anyway, this is definitely worth a Rent.

You know, I don't think I've ever seen Blade all the way through.  But I know that I watched that fight over and over again, it was on one of those Ultimate Fights DVDs.  Remember when DVDs came out, in the pre Youtube days, they would come out with DVDs with different movie scenes?  I remember seeing commercials that were just compilations of dirty scenes (which, given our forum, is proof positive they're out of date) but they did other kinds as well.  One was fights.

I remember the compilations, but I was buying so many DVD's back in the day that I never bought any. I'd just get the movie itself.
