Out of all the Blade movies, Blade II is by far the best and my personal favorite. I don't give a f*ck what other people say about the film, it f*cking kicks ass. Sure, it may be loud and a full-on action flick, but who really cares. Everything doesn't have to be all about deep vampire mythology. It's a great popcorn flick and this was the movie that introduced me to a "new" film maker that I had never heard of before. Thy name be Guillermo del Toro and he does a fantastic job. Visually, the movie just oozes his film making style and it has an energy that just can't be matched. You gotta hand it to the guy for creating one of the most unique and original looking vampire offshoots.

The Special FX throughout look incredible, especially any of the scenes involving Jared Nomak and his fellow Reapers is stunning to watch. To have their faces split open and then close seemlessly back into "human form" is pretty damn impressive. Another reason why I dig this movie a lot has to do with the cast as well. You can't go wrong when you surround Wesley Snipes with the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman, Leonor Varela, Norman Reedus and Luke Goss. Everyone added something that made the movie more entertaining then it should have been.

A couple of things that I like beyond the style is that Blade finally gets a credible threat with Nomak and the fight showdown at the end between the two is well worth the price of admission. I also like Nyssa as Blade's "love interest". It made sense. Her death scene at the end, although tragic, was very poetic in how it plays out. It's a visiual that you just can't shake. The movie may not be entirely original. They do crib from one of the best and that's Aliens. If you've seen the movie before, you will know that the entire Sewer sequence comes from Aliens itself. Anyway, I highly recommend this as a Buy.
