Blade: The Series (Season 1 - 2006)

It may be called Blade: The Series, but the title character is basically reduced to a 3rd string quarterback. Normally I would look at this as being a big mistake. But given the poor acting by Kirk "Sticky Fingaz" Jones as Blade, having him down the totem pole of characters actually works in favor for the series. Kirk isn't horrible....for the most part. But he is bad though. He is not an actor and his line readings do leave a lot to be desired as they come across as "acting". He looks badass in the role, but he is no Wesley Snipes. Some characters just can't get over the hump of having someone else playing the role and this is one of those cases for sure.

The entire seasons falls more along the lines of a typical Mafia series, much like that of The Sopranos. In Blade: The Series, we are dealing with the 12 Houses, each one given a 'Boss' to run their house as they see fit but under the Vampire Nation that they all try to "get along". Each one of course is trying to undermine the other house to become ruler of all. That's the arc. Along with Blade, there is Shen (Nelson Lee), his partner in crime. Think along the lines of an Asian Whistler. Along for the ride is Krista (Jill Wagner), a partner that gets turned by Marcus Van Sciver (Neil Jackson), both who have the best and most interesting character arcs in the series and make the show stay afloat in spite of some serious flaws. Jessica Gower as Chase is pretty good too.

The first half of the season is a bit shaky, but with the introduction of Charlotte in the middle of the season, that's when the series became fun. Still not on par with the first two Blade films, but definitely better than Trinity. I think it's definitely worth a Rent. I'm sure the huge surplus of  T i t s  and Asses and soft core sex might be incentive to give this a whirl. I originally saw the series on Spike TV and of course it was edited down for good reason. The DVD has ramped up the Adult Content and then some.

Out of everyone in the series, the only person I have seen since in something beyond Blade is Jill Wagner and it isn't something to be proud of as she is the co-host of Wipeout. I enjoy the show here and there, but she is wasting time doing that when she should be doing some real acting. Beyond that, I haven't seen her in anything else.
