Blast from the Past

Trailer

I love the fish-out-of-water genre. Back To The Future and Pleasantville immediately come to mind and are tops in my book, but Blast from the Past fits in nicely alongside them. Although not as good as those two, Blast does have a certain charm to it and the premise itself is actually funny and unique. But what makes this movie work for me are the likable characters or more specifically the actors portraying them. This movie isn't perfect, but whenever Sissy Spacek and Christopher Walken are on screen, they OWN it. I love both of them as they are fantastic in their roles. The movie is at its strongest when they, along with Brendan Fraser are sharing screen time together.

I am not what you would call a Brendan Fraser fan. Far from it. I've never really enjoyed any of his movies because most of the time, his goofiness is too much of a distraction to take him seriously as an actor. Well, his goofiness finally has a home here and it works given the fact that he is living his life underground, completely unaware what's happening up top. Add Alicia Silverstone and Dave Foley, who by the way was awesome in this one and you have a recipe for a nice, fun little movie. Definitely worth a Rent for sure.

It has been so long since I last saw Blast that I actually forgot that he was even in this. So, it was a surprise to see him pop up.

I saw this loooooong ago and remember the basic premise and yes, thought it was charming. Beyond that, I don't recall scenes at all.
