For Your Eyes Only (1981)
« on: December 22, 2012, 02:47:15 pm »

I remember liking For Your Eyes Only at one point in time. This is the first time I've watched the movie in probably 25 years and boy, was this ever a chore to get through. It's not that it's a horrible movie, it's just that this one in particular did not age well at all. The "technology" which never looked groundbreaking (even in 1981) is just beyond laughable now. But I think the biggest flaw for me is in the "Villain". He has got to be the weakest ever in the entire series. He never comes across as being dangerous or a threat or anything. He is just dull, dull, dull.

Probably the biggest misfire was both the opening and closing of the movie. The beginning had Roger Moore's Bond facing off against who may or may not be Ernst Stavro Blofeld, his arch enemy. He is never identified as such, but it doesn't take a genius to know that anyone with a White Cat is Blofeld. But the ending was just downright stupid. Ending it with a Parrot "impersonating" James Bond to fool Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was going for cheap laughs that didn't deliver at all. Honestly, the best part of the entire movie was the Opening Credits and even the art design for this is nowhere as good as The Spy Who Loved Me.

This is a Skip. With that all said, I think this is why I enjoy Moonraker a lot more than I probably should with all the absurd "plot" developments with Bond in Space, Jaws, etc....

For Your Eyes Only DVD Screencaps

Don't count on it. There isn't anything memorable about this one.

Normally I wouldn't post something like this clip in a thread about one of the worst Bond films of all time. But since a good chunk of it focuses on the "Submarine-car" and how f*cking awesome it is, I felt it was appropriate to post it here. Doesn't change the fact that the movie still sucks donkey balls. No offense to any donkey's that read or will read this thread.
