It's been a long wait between the end of Season 3 to getting Season 4 into my hands. How good is Breaking Bad? Within the first couple of minutes I was back into the zone of what it's like to watch this show. That's a credit to both the writing and the characters that populate the series. This episode literally picks up right where Full Measure left off. I kept running certain outs' for Jesse that would be away for him to not shoot and kill Gale. But at the end of the day, getting rid of him was the only option he and Walt had. Bummer he had to go the way he went, but that's how you write a show and do it right, especially if you want to keep the danger element that anyone on the show can go at anytime.

I'm gonna try and pace myself better with Season 4. I really don't want to burn through all the episodes in 3 days time. Gotta make it last because I have no idea how long it's gonna take to get Season 5 into my hands.

Thirty-Eight Snub

With the fallout from last seasons cliffhanger and the previous episode, it seems that both Walt and Jesse have taken two different approaches in the best way to make themselves feel safer. Walt buys and gun and spends pretty much the entire episode trying to get to Gus, presumably to take him out and end it once and for all. Jesse on the other hand buys a tricked out sound system to throw a never-ending house party so that he can have people around him, looking to make any kind of connection. Walt seeks comfort with a gun, Jesse with people. Neither is helping to alleviate their guilt over the murder of Gale. This is how the episode played to me. Not sure if anyone would agree. Maybe I'm seeing things that aren't there. Anyway, solid episode.

Open House

Jesse is clearly losing his grip on reality. It says a lot when he would rather sit in his own house with a room full of people he doesn't even know, destroying and stealing openly in front of him. He's lost it. The ending where he tosses the money in the living room shows that these people are literally rats scurrying for cheese and this is entertaining for Jesse. Sad.

I like that this episode gave some much need story time to Marie and Skyler. Watching Marie going back to her kleptomaniac ways was fun, especially with all the Open Houses she was hitting, coming up with insane stories about her life, etc...Not to be outdone, Skyler was just as cunning in her ability to con the Car Wash owner into selling the business to her and Walt. She's becoming more and more like Walt. Haha.

Bullet Points

Jesse is really pushing his luck with Gus and Mike. There is something that never really made much sense. Walt's "leverage" against Gus is that he and Jesse are a team and that if anything happens to Jesse, there would be no more cooking as Walt would make a "stand". Um, all Gus would have to do is take Jesse out of the picture and then just threaten to harm Walt's family. I'd guarantee that he would be more than compliant in fulfilling his orders without fail. Curious to see what Mike and Gus have in store now that Mike is driving Jesse off somewhere. Perhaps they will show him that his family can be gotten to just as easily?

Shotgun

Oh Walt, you stupid, dumb motherf*cking idiot!!! He was in the clear. He had Hank and the rest of the Police force already assuming that Gale was the infamous Heisenberg (aka Walt). But I guess having to sit at the dinner table, listening to Hank go on and on about how Gale was this genius. Ego, baby! It's always gonna f*ck people up and sure enough, Walt pretty much says that Gale is not Heisenberg and that the real McCoy is still out there. Too bad Skyler couldn't do anything. She couldn't. She had to sit there, bite her lip and basically let Walt hang himself.

As for Jesse, pretty clever of Gus and Mike to set him up as the "Hero" to have him think that HE's now indispensable to the business and because of that will now toe the line....for the foreseeable future. I'm sure that Jesse will run into the 'Man with the shotgun' at some kind of function where Gus and/or Mike is at and put two and two together and realize that he was played.

Cornered

The ending was pretty telling in fleshing out how dumb Walt can be. Buying his son a car is one thing, buying the most souped up, tricked out Hot Rod Sports car is another thing. Does he think this is just not going to be noticed by his neighbors, the IRS or Hank and Marie? I liked that Skyler called him out on it and that it was HER that has to protect the family, even if it means that she takes all the blame from Walt Jr. I just think that it's odd that Walt professes to do what he does to protect the family and yet continues to act and do things opposite of what he says.

The other cool thing about the episode was Jesse and Mike and their stakeout. Watching Jesse improvise and get his way into the Meth-House tells me that Mike was actually impressed with his ability to think on his feet. Dare I say, but I think the story is going to go along the lines of Mike actually befriending Jesse and becoming friends with the kid and this would be the ideal way that he goes against Gus one day. What I see is that down the road, Gus will ask Mike to kill Jesse and that his friendship with the kid is actually real enough that he defies Gus. Yeah, it's gonna end in a bad way for Mike, but it will make for a great exit for him and a great moment for the series. Well, that's how I would set it up and write it personally. Remains to be seen......

FYI, if anyone has seen or knows anything about this, please keep it to yourself. I don't want any Spoilers of any kind. Thank you and have a nice day.

It's been coming along slowly with Hank recuperating, but this is the one where he finally gets to shine this season as he closes in on piecing the information about Gale, Los Pollos Hermanos and Gus' connection with each other. I knew that when he was laying it out for the Police Chief and his former partner that they would just dismiss him as reaching, but there was a sense of glee watching him turn it around with hard evidence when he pulled out Gus' fingerprints at the scene of the crime. Nice.

But the biggest scene in this episode and for this season (so far) was Jesse's meltdown at his former recovery meeting where he lays it out for everyone in attendance to see when he tells them he is there for one reason and one reason only: to sell meth to them. The scene was incredibly powerful and it's no wonder why Aaron Paul who plays Jesse won an Emmy. Just....wow.

Epic doesn't even begin do this episode justice. This has a lot going for it and it's all because of Gus. This is more or less an origin story. Partially. By that I mean, there is more to the story that hasn't been told, but we at least get to see how Gus and Hector know each other and why the Mexican cartel is hell bent on taking him out. We also get to see why Gus respects the relationship of Walt and Jesse given that he had the same kind of relationship with his own partner.

Now factor into this the fact that Hank is getting closer and closer to tying up all the loose ends and going so far as to have Walt place a tracker on Gus' car and you seriously have an episode that is thick with suspense. Man, I can't wait to see how this season plays out. It's been a fantastic ride and I'm glad to finally get the origin story I've been wanting to see for the past couple of seasons. Awesome sh*t. The episode was so good that it just blew by in an instant because it was so engaging. Cool to see Steven Bauer pop up as the Kingpin that Hector works for. I haven't seen Bauer in anything in years.

Holy sh*t! That was a brutal knockdown, drag out fight between Jesse and Walt. The fight, even though it's been expected for a while now since Jesse and Walt have been at odds for pretty much the entire season, still came as a shock when it happened. I actually flinched when Jesse threw the tracker at Walt, cracking him in the head. Everything that I've guessed in earlier episodes that would pan out, is not. It's never panned out the way I envisioned it. That's why this is one of the best TV series ever, because the writing is top notch and always gives us unexpected twist. The dinner between Gus and Jesse was also intense. The scene with Skyler was pretty funny with her channeling her inner Erin Brockovich.

Man, I said I wouldn't burn through these episodes as fast as before. But I'm finding it very difficult to just keep it to 2, maybe 3 a day. This season is ending too fast for me. Grrr!

Oh sh*t!!! Best episode this season and in my Top 3 of all time with regards to the series. Last episode was Epic, but this one was EPIC!!!! What to talk about first? Ah, gotta go with the Trojan Horse tactic first. It was obvious from the get go that the Bottle of Whiskey was laced with poison and I even knew that Gus would drink it to sell The Don (Steven Bauer) that it was safe to drink. Even knowing the set up and how it would play out, it didn't diminish any of it. It was awesome. Even the shoot out with Jesse and one of the goons was epic.

Elsewhere, I thought the heart to heart talk between Walt and Walt Jr. was done extremely rare and was heavy with emotional content. Skyler. Poor, poor Skyler. She has her heart in the right place to reach out and help Ted. But even I knew that as soon as he got the money that he would skirt paying his taxes and go right out and spend it on sh*t he didn't need. She handled it better than I would have. Personally I would have kicked the sh*t out of him upon learning he spent the money. Grr!

Crawl Space

Now I get why Season 4 is considered to be the best season of the series. These last few episodes, each one has been beyond amazing. They each in their own right have felt like Season Finales. You know when they ramp it up and make it a whirlwind, anything can happen, sh*t-hits-the-fan episode? Well, that's what it's been like and there are still 2 episodes left for me to watch. I can only imagine what's going to go down.

But this episode, damn, talk about laying it out there. The final scene when Walt realizes he is up sh*t creek with no place to go and everything closing in on him made for one crazy ass meltdown. You find out there is a hit on Hank and that leads him to finally put the call in to 'the man' that can make him disappear along with his family and that it's gonna cost 500K to make it happen only to find out the money he had stashed away in the crawl space it practically gone only to find out that Skyler gave most of it away to Ted, who by the way had one of the trippiest death scenes ever. So, watching Walt stuck between a rock and a hard place, his meltdown was long overdue.

I'm speechless after this one. It's episodes like this that make series like Breaking Bad extremely rare. If we could only have quality shows like this all the time, it would be sweet.

End Times

Chalk up another stellar performance from all parties involved. The 'standoff' between Jesse and Walt was intense that ended with both of them realizing who was behind poisoning Brock with the poisoned Cigarette. The emotion both of these guys bring to their characters is just astounding. They should be getting Emmy's every year. The face to face between Jesse and Gus at the hospital was your typical 'Gus-cool-as-a-cucumber' demeanor, but it works every time. There is something more scary about a person that doesn't fly off the handle and keeps everything under the vest. Now I get why Tyrus is the way he is. He is modeling himself after Gus. They are so much alike that it wouldn't shock me at all to find out they are father and son. They're not. Anyway, amazing episode and the ending was on-the-edge-of-your-seat awesome. Only a character like Gus can figure out in the nick of time that Walt and Jesse purposely led him to the Hospital in the efforts of getting him into a kill zone. Crisis averted. So, one last episode for Season 4....what is up Walt's sleeve now? This should be good.............

Face Off

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn! What an incredible season finale!! This was all about Walt and Jesse trying to dig out of the hole they created and it came down to one choice: Eliminate Gus. But how to do that when he has been 20 steps ahead of everyone else and no one could get to him. Who knew that the key to all this would be Hector Salamanca. As soon as Walt approached him in the nursing home, I immediately knew that his wheelchair would be the catalyst for the bomb and that they would use Gus' hatred of Hector to lure him out of his shell and get him into the kill zone. The entire lead up to this pivitol moment was intense. Beyond anything I've experienced. Even knowing what was coming, it didn't dilute it one bit. But the kicker was seeing Gus walk out of the room after the explosion, adjusting his tie like he always does and then tracking the camera to reveal the other side of his face, which was missing. Daaaaaaaaaaaaamn!!!!

But it's the ending that opens up what's to come with Season 5. Jesse's mentions that Brock was not poisoned with Ricin, but from a berry he ate from a flower that is poison. The final shot of the episode had a single tracking shot as the camera moves in for a close up of the same flower in the backyard of Walt. Yup, Walt poisoned Brock so that he could manipulate Jesse's to signing off on the idea of killing Gus. Also, there is the matter of Mike. Even though he wasn't in this episode and was still recovering from his bullets wounds a couple episodes back, I'm pretty confident that he will play a factor in Season 5. Either as a straight up 'Revenge' for Gus or he will help Jesse kill Walt for poisoning Brock. Whatever happens, Season 5 has a lot to live up to in matching this season.

Season 4

I've been pretty good as avoiding spoilers for Breaking Bad for each season, but that doesn't mean that I've avoided talk about what season is the best. As I remember it, I've never heard anyone say that Season 4 wasn't the best in the series and having just watched this, I agree 100% with the idea that this is definitely the best. I will go a step further and say its one of, if not THE greatest season for any show. This is something that needs to be watched and savored. The writing and the acting....incredible. There's one thing that I'm taking away from this season and the series as a whole and it's this.....Aaron Paul is the real star of Breaking Bad. The show may be about Walt and Bryan Cranston has been incredible. But it's Aaron's portrayal of Jesse that truly takes this show to a whole other level. Just....wow!

Amazing season and I can't be more enthusiastic to recommend Season 4 as a Buy.
