3:10 to Yuma

Trailer

I never saw the original 3:10 to Yuma film, so I don't know if this remake is on point or if it goes off in a completely different direction or if scenes were added or subtracted. Anyway, 3:10 to Yuma staring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale is basically a Prisoner transport flick where Dan Evans (Bale) in dire need of money offers his services to transport notorious outlaw Ben Wade (Crowe) to the town of Contention to put him on the 3:10 to Yuma train, which is kinda like Con Air....only set in the Western Genre.

I thought the movie was good and did a great job in production design for a Western. The way the movie is set up, you know full well that by the time the end rolls around, you expect Wade to turn 'good' and help Evans fulfill his destiny to make Evan's son proud of him. The one negative I have with the movie is that even though it's hinted at during the movie that there is "some good left in him", there really is no justification why the sudden change of heart. Maybe guilt? Maybe is just saw something in Evans that no one else did. It doesn't diminish the movie in anyway, it's just a little peeve of mine. Definitely worth a Rent for those that like Crowe, Bale and Westerns in general. Ben Foster, Peter Fonda, Alan Tudyk, Kevin Durand, Luke Wilson and Gretchen Mol also co-star. 4 Stars out of 5. By the way, it's Ben Foster that owns this movie.

Westerns do nothing for me... Except the Clint Eastwood stuff... For some reason. The spaghetti's, two mules, man with no name. Traditional westerns are lost on me.

So you can imagine my high anticipation for Lone Ranger.

Speaking of, I've got a very funny post coming up about that.

I'm sort of the same.  I think it's because the European westerns aren't tied to this romantic idea of the old west so they bring out the warts and all when they tell their stories.  I think that's why I liked Django so much, because it had that same disconnect to the romantic John Ford tradition.

I also love the way those spaghetti westerns looked, there was dirt in the camera and scratches on the lens, the colours didn't always match, the actors got sunburn, and the guns sounded like cannons.

They tried to do a "Man With No Name" comic book, I  picked up an issue and it looked like garbage.  Which really sucks because I know there's at least ONE comic book, a french mini-series named WEST about the failed attempt to make Cuba an American State (which I do hope gets translated by Heavy Metal) that literally looks like those movies, it's astounding and impressive.  If I ever do a western, it's the visual example I'm sharing with everyone.

Did you ever see "Duck, You Sucker" by any chance?

I have not seen Duck.

Agree about Django. I didn't think why I liked it until you said that.  :)
