In what seems like a 2 year wait, I finally got my hands on a copy of
Captain America: The Winter Soldier and it was well worth the wait. I really didn't know if the movie would live up to the overwhelmingly positive reviews it had gotten. Even though
Captain America: The First Avenger got the same kind of good press, I felt that it was a bit underwhelming to the point of being a huge disappointment. So, naturally, I had reservations about what I was going to get here.
Winter Soldier is the movie
First Avenger should have been. I love that it wasn't choking on CGI for everything and did more practical shots than expected. Story wise, it was great too. All the set pieces, especially the fights throughout was kick ass.
I'm stunned that I was able to avoid spoilers for the entire wait time because when it was revealed that the
Winter Soldier was in fact
Bucky, it was a huge surprise for me. Big pay off indeed. I love redemption tales and this one is definitely set up for him to have that moment in
CA3. He kinda had somewhat of a redemption by saving
Steve from drowning. But I'm looking for a bigger one next time around. Also good was getting more
Black Widow. Can we finally get her her own damn movie now? Overall, very pleased with
Winter Soldier. Definitely worth a
Rent. Loved the retro feel of the end credits which further drives home what the movie itself felt like with less CGI stuff.
