Cast Away - Special Edition 2-Disc Set

Trailer

I think the strongest thing going for this movie other than Tom Hanks (Chuck) brilliant performance is the editing. Knowing when and where to cut scenes is extremely vital for a movie that is basically a one man show for pretty much the entire film. There is only so many ways you can cut a film before you start to repeat things which would become an uninteresting montage for the character and the viewer. I have seen this movie plenty of times over the years and I never get bored with it. In fact, I find that the movie gets better with each viewing and I'm always engaged from start to finish with Cast Away.

I think the ending of the movie is brilliant in it's ambiguity, with Chuck literally standing in the middle of a crossroads. He has four choices to choose from, each representing a road that will forever map out his future. I for one like to think that he took the road back to the chicks house and started a new life with her.

The only problem I have with the movie is a minor one and that's Helen Hunt. I didn't see her and Tom have that onscreen chemistry that he has with say, Meg Ryan. I don't know if it's Helen herself or the fact that they never really gave us a scene early in the movie that really drove home the idea that they were made for each other. Even the proposal in the car wasn't enough to sell me on the idea they were destined to be together for the rest of their lives. In spite of this, I still think Cast Away is a great movie that showcases Tom Hanks at his best. Beyond the physical transformation, the guy sold me with him basically having to act opposite a Volleyball, aka Wilson. It's no wonder that he was nominated yet again for Best Supporting Actor here.

I highly recommend this as a Buy.

Maybe, just maybe Ms. Hunt has one acting character and brings nothing to the screen, let alone chemistry with Hanks character.

Sigh

I've seen this once when it first came out on video. At times, I remember thinking this was interesting, but other times I got frustrated and a little bored.

It's been a long time. I probably should give this another shot.

Some cast doubt on castaway's story

This has been in the news the last couple of days. A real life Castaway. Well, now people aren't quite so sure. For starters, if he really was out there, how come he hasn't talked about Wilson;D
