I give
Chasing Amy a perfect rating in spite of the fact that I can't stand
Ben Affleck in this movie. I can't stand his stupid "dance" moves. I can't stand his dumbass goatee. And I can't stand his stupid pompadour hair. His character of
Holden is dumb and self centered, who thinks the world revolves around his d*ck. So how does it still manage a 5 star rating? There are a lot of factors that add up to it. First off, coming off of
Mallrats, this movie was the complete opposite.
Kevin Smith wrote an intelligent script that had weight and balls (or lack thereof pertaining to lesbians). while still retaining your d*ck and fart jokes. There are plenty of scenes with witty dialogue that harkens more along the lines of
Clerks and not some watered down Hollywood flick like
Mallrats geared toward 16 year old's. Bonus points for setting the movie in the world of Comic Books.
Once again,
Jason Lee as
Banky steals the show here and
Joey Lauren Adams as
Alyssa Jones does a great job. Her breakdown scene was full of intense emotion and I was hoping that she would really punch
Ben in the face during the scene. Didn't happen. Pfftt! Also, reducing
Jay and Silent Bob down to a cameo was the best thing
Kevin could do if having them in the movie was a must.
This is a definite
Buy. Highly recommended.
