Children of Men

Trailer

I can't believe its taken me this long to finally getting around to seeing Children of Men for the first time. It's been on my to-watch list for a long time. I've heard nothing but great things about this movie. Actually, I don't think I've ever heard of a single bad thing said. Ever. So, when the movie begins, it starts off kind of cumbersome and without cluing anyone in on exactly what is happening. Yes, I knew what the movie was about before I pushed 'Play' on my DVD player. But I'm thinking along the lines of someone that has no idea or preconceived notions about its plot or story line. If that's the case, then the viewer will absolutely be lost for the first half hour or so.

Personally, even with the knowledge of what the plot is ultimately about, I did think it was starting off a bit slower than expected. But trust me, stick with it because the movie does start to pick up some speed and the Car Ambush was both scary and exhilarating and shocking at the same time. It comes out of nowhere and was totally unexpected, including what happens to one of the characters. I won't say anything more about this so as not to ruin it for anyone else that has yet to see this. So I will leave it at that.

But like I said, the movie really starts to pick up and by the time you get to the end, you really do feel like the entire weight of the world is on Kee (Claire-Hope  A s h i t e y ) as Theo (Clive Owen) does his best to transport the first pregnant women in 20 years to saftey in a world that hasn't had a single newborn in that time. This is life or death. There are some amazing sequences, especially the battle scene that has one of the most awe-inspiring moments where the war literally stops dead in its tracks at the sight of.....

Well, I really don't wanna say anything more. You know...spoilers and all that sh*t. Just go Rent the f*cking movie so we can discuss this move in more detail!! Definitely a movie I want to add to my DVD Library for sure. The movie will benefit from repeat viewings at which time I will be able to determine if this stays where its at or gets a perfect 5 Star rating. For now, 4 1/2 is sufficient. Also in the cast is Julianne Moore and Michael Caine, who is awesome as a pot-smoking "hippie". Alfonso Cuarón did a fantastic job directing this film.

I think I've teared up at the end every time I watch it.  It's not even part of the story, just the sound over the credits, after everything that happened up to that point, it just gets you right in the gut.

I had been wanting to watch this again since seeing Argo (the body hanging in the street in Argo made me think of the portrayal of London, you see) and I finally did a few weeks ago... I just love the flick, but it's SUCH an emotional investment to watch it, that I only see it every couple of years.

Yeah, I didn't even think it would be as emotional as it turned out to be. It wasn't the movie I thought of originally. It was 100% the complete opposite and that's not a bad thing either.

Glad you came around to seeing this. It is a thinking persons film. Not to only understand what is going on, but to think what-if.

Oh, now I GOTTA know what Chip thought it was (this is why I write down this sort of thing before I see a movie).  You thought Clive Owen was gonna get pregnant, didn't you?
