Sad to say, but that concludes my Battlestar Galatica DVD Marathon. I watched the final two episodes today, clocking in at 2.5 hours. That was a nice number and as always, the Series Finale left me fulfilled and at times incredibly sad. There were a handful of moments, particularly the last 20 minutes that also gets to me, especially the passing of Laura Roslin. Seeing William Adama keeping his promise to build her the cabin that she always wanted for them also strikes a nerve in a good way for me. Speaking of Roslin, you have to give props to Mary McDonnell who was fantastic during the entire run of the series, but it was the final season that elevates her into the incredible actress that she is. Breathtaking.  But this series begins and ends with Edward James Olmos. If he isn't in the lead, I honestly think this show would only be half of what it is. One of the best ensembles cast I've ever witness anchors BSG.

I love how the whole premise for the Cylons is that they want to be treated and accepted as "human" in spite of the fact that they never can be that. It's not until the moment the Cylons break out into their own Civil War and begin killing each other do they actually become "human". Sad to say, but this characteristic makes it true. I like that lines were drawn in the sand and that an alliance was made to take down the evil Cylons, which further drove home the idea that they were more human than machine if they were willing to work together. As much as I dig this season, it's not perfect and there are a couple of things that I didn't like. One episode in particular I actually hate and still do hate to this day and that's the Death of Callie episode. It's depressing, which was probably the intent, but more than that, I just didn't like how it ended for her or how the episode was paced and edited together.

Another thing that really irks me is that once Apollo and Dee divorce, her screen time is drastically reduced. Later on in the season when she reconnects with Apollo, giving the fans what we want, MORE DEE!, she ends up killing herself. Yes, I get that she wanted to go out on top, the happiest she will ever be. But it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Hated both Tori and eventually Gaeta. When they both get what's coming to them, I do get a bit of joy in it. Anyways, these little things don't take away from this season at all and is definitely worth a Rent. Best ending I've seen in a long time when it's revealed that the events in BSG happens 150,000 years earlier which was a great swerve at the time.

One last thing. While watching the series, I kept thinking about how a good chunk of the smaller actors at the conclusion of the series were all employed elsewhere on good shows. You couldn't change the TV channel without seeing someone from BSC. That went on for a couple of years. With the exception of Grace Park on Hawaii Five-0, you'd be hard pressed to find them today, which I find very sad. Hey, maybe they are working, but I've not seen them in years, except Katee Sackhoff in The Big Bang Theory and 24. I am very much looking forward to seeing Olmos on Agents of SHIELD.

Battlestar Galactica Cast: Where Are They Now?

Out of all of them, Grace Park has been the most successful in staying in the public eye consistently with her role on Hawaii Five-O. It would be hella cool if there was a revolving door of BSG Alums that would pop up on the show. Based on what they are doing (not much), what would it hurt to do a cameo? Not much at all.
