The Equalizer

Trailer

I'm a fan of both Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua. They know how to bring their A Game and I was excited to finally get my copy of The Equalizer from the Library today. With that said, I just didn't know exactly what kind of movie I would be getting though. I can't remember watching a full Trailer, but I definitely caught the Teaser since I didn't want any spoilers, only a taste of it and I'm glad that I didn't see anything beyond that. Before pushing 'Play', I was expecting to get your typical Action flick given the character and movie is based on the TV series of the same name. I remember very little of the show, but you just assume it's going to be a revamp with bigger guns and more explosions. Well, I can tell you right now that this is not that kind of movie and it's exactly why the film succeeded beyond my expectations.

This isn't about strapping up, kicking down doors and blowing sh*t up. It's all about tactical maneuvering and doing as much damage as possible with the least amount of force. You want a 'Cat and Mouse' movie, this is definitely the one to get. You would think that since this is the opposite of what people are expecting that there would be a letdown of some sort. That couldn't be further off the mark. I found The Equalizer to be a breath of fresh air and I applaud both Washington and Fuqua for their restraint here and keeping the character of Robert McCall consistent from start to finish. The showdown was pure exhilaration and totally satisfying in the way it was both shot and executed (pun not intended). I can't recommend The Equalizer with greater enthusiasm. This is a definite Buy for me. Can't wait to see what the sequel brings to the table, which is what I was hoping for half way through the movie.
