Deadpool

Redband Trailer

I had very high hopes for Deadpool just based on the trailer alone. I knew it would deliver because it was all there in the trailer. And yes, it delivered and more. The thing that really struck me about Deadpool was just how much f*cking fun it was. It just destroyed all these other doom and gloom comic book movies that seems the norm for the last 15 years. Honestly, I really don't know why going "dark" and "brooding" is the thing to do when it comes to other characters and franchises. Yes, there are some really good ones that use that plot devices, but that doesn't mean it's fun in the way that Deadpool is. Ryan Reynolds is perfectly cast as the lead character. I don't think anyone else out there could have nailed it in the way that he does. If you have ever read the comic books (which I have), then you know that humor is the driving force and it's all here and you can see that Ryan if very fond of the character in his portrayal.

The jokes, sarcasm, breaking the 4th wall and the copious amounts of bullets and blood is the hallmark of the books and translated well onto celluloid. The movie is Rated R for a reason and they made it count. I loved all the inside jokes, poking fun at Hugh Jackman and Ryan himself on numerous occasions. I know that Hugh is set to retire from Wolverine, but I really hope that he changes his mind so that we can get a proper Wolverine / Deadpool team up. And no, I don't count that lame fight between both characters in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. There was a lot to like in Deadpool visually as well. Great stunt work and Special FX. Colossus looked great too and as a character he was damn funny too. FYI, Deadpool without a doubt has the best looking Costume out of anyone else in Comic Book Films. Perfect. The only reason why I give this only 4 Stars was because the main villain wasn't worthy of Wade Wilson. This was more or less an Origin Story, so it makes sense to deal with the guy that f*cked up Wilson, but as the Big Bad, not so much. Even with that little hiccup, the movie is still awesome. Highly recommend this one for sure.

I just watched Stan Lee's panel form the Denver Comic-Con and he raved about the movie, especially the line "I only have 11 shells, some of you are going to have to share."
