I'm really at a lost for words when I hear people say that
Die Hard: With A Vengence is better than
Die Hard 2. It is so not. I remember walking out of the theater very disapointed with the 3rd installment. My opinion of it has softened a bit over the years, but it's still the weakest out of the first three. There are some good moments, but for me, this really has nothing to do with what made the original
Die Hard such a blast.
At the end of the day, it's just a series of riddles that
John McClane (Bruce Willis) and
Zeus (Samuel L. Jackson) have to solve throughout the city to keep
Simon Gruber (Jeremy Irons) from blowing the next intended target. Yes, he is the brother of Hans Gruber from the first film, but other than that, there is no connection whatsoever. Like I said, this one has its occasional moment, but it doesn't make up for the haphazard plot. Even though this is part of my
Five Star Collection box set, I would say it's a
Rental at best.
As with
Die Hard 2, the above DVD Cover is not from the
Five Star Collection. This is the only cover I could find in its place.
