I can't believe how old Do the Right Thing is. Sheesh! I own the DVD and I watch it maybe every 3-4 years...give or take, and each time I do watch it, it feels fresh and relevant to what is happening in today's society, more so now than ever before. Normally I'm not a fan of movies or tv shows that pit races against each other. But there is a message at work here for a good reason. It also helps that this movie in particular has a host of interesting characters to tell the story. The older the movie gets, the more I do a double take at some of the actors that were wet behind the ears that have gone onto bigger and better things, most notably Martin Lawrence and Rosie Perez. I love her opening dance sequence during the credits. So much angry and intensity with every move she makes.

I think the biggest mindf*ck is seeing Giancarlo Esposito in this one. This is the first time I have watched Do The Right Thing since watching and completing Breaking Bad and the entire time he is on screen, I'm not seeing 'Bugging Out', but seeing Gus Fring. How can I not? The entire movie is loaded with well known faces like Spike Lee, Danny Aiello, John Turturro and Samuel L. Jackson. But my faves are of course Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis. With their close personal ties to both Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X, having them in this movie in particular was kind of a no-brainer. For me this is already a Buy. But it's definitely worth a Rent if you have never seen the movie for yourself.
