Downton Abbey
(Season 3)

Trailer

What the f*ck! To say that I'm p*ssed off right now is an understatement. This season threw more curve balls at loyal fans of the show. First they kill off Sybil, which wasn't a complete shock to me. I actually saw it happening long before in the way it was set up. I liked the character and I liked Jessica Brown Findlay who portrayed the character. But what really p*ssed me off was the final scene of the Season 3 Finale in which they killed off Matthew (Dan Stevens). He was a great character and he will be missed. But makes his passing all the more sad is that he is driving home after holding his newborn child. That is f*cking tragic. F*ck!!

This wasn't your typical Downton Abbey season. They also dealt with Mrs. Hughes and her fear of having breast cancer, which is a story arc that I never would have expected to see on this type of show. It's just something you don't normally connect with during this era because it's never really addressed. With all the dark stuff flying about Downton, thank God there were some moments of humor to be found. Mrs. O'Brien and Thomas, once thick as thieves are not at odds with each other and look to get the better of the other with their plotting. I use to be appalled at the things they blatantly did toward innocent bystanders. But when they are doing it to each other, I found it extremely funny and couldn't wait to see what was next. O'Brien setting up Thomas, making him think that Jimmy "liked" him was great.

I also like they finally gave Mr. Molesley (Kevin Doyle) something of an arc. I figured he was always going to be a background character and nothing more. Well, he is getting some face time and he has been a great source of humor from his Cricket "skills" to his drunken dancing abilities. Haha. Funny stuff. I like the new addition of Rose (Lily James) who reminds me a lot of Emilia Clarke from Game Of Thrones.

Overall, I would say this is the best season yet for Downton Abbey. I highly recommend this as a Rent for sure. I can't wait to see Season 4, but that's not gonna be any time soon as it has yet to be released on DVD. F*ck!!!!!!

I love that you mention GoT since Ygritte was Anna's roommate from the first season.

Yeah, LOTS of curveballs... I had read about Sybil's death (which I really wish I hadn't known) but Matthew's was a total shock (didn't you get a Gatsby vibe from him in the car?), but honestly, he was the one who saved the family, so he had to go.  I told you, the show's about death and destruction.  I honestly expect that the last shot of the show will be Downton in ruins.

At least we finally got to see Shrimpie!  My mom and I were obsessing about that since we first heard the name way back in S1. And seeing another manor was brill, it's like when they make another Federation ship for a Star Trek movie (Vengeance or Kelvin, anyone?)

I did have a crazy thought about this season though that I can finally share:  Sybil and Branson have a daughter.  She's named Sybil after her mom, and raised in a big house with lots of people, but realizes that class and status don't matter that much. She grows up and marries this man:
