Ed Wood
Special Edition

Trailer

This is the first time I have seen Ed Wood since the day I saw it back in 1994 in the theater and you know what? It's still awesome. What's not to like about this film? It's got a great cast with Johnny Depp leading the charge as the title character. As great as he is in this one, and he really is, the true gem here is Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi. What Landau manage to do with this role is mind boggling. I couldn't believe how much of a transformation he did and literally assume the identity of Bela. I am still in awe of his performance. Just...WOW! Along with these two cats, there is a solid cast including Bill Murray, Patricia Arquette, Sarah Jessica Parker, George "The Animal" Steele, Jeffrey Jones and Lisa Marie.

The art direction and visual style that Tim Burton achieve with this film made it seem authentic to both old-school Hollywood as well as the films that Ed Wood himself shot. The music is fantastic. I highly recommend this as a Buy. If you are a fan of film noir or horror films or Bela himself, you owe it to yourself to check out this movie.

Side note: Every film and movie geek knows about Ed Wood and the title of 'Worst Director of all time' and the movie Plan 9 From Outer Space being the worst film ever. His name comes up in conversation every once in a while when talking about good and bad directors. What's crazy is that I have never seen any of his movies in their entirety. Sure, I've seen bits and pieces here and there over the years and I've always said that I would get around to eventually seeing them whole. Well, I'm gonna try and knock 3 of them out this week. The 3 are: Glen or Glenda, Bride Of The Monster and Plan 9, the 3 films depicted in Ed Wood.

This was a great film to watch. I'd read what I could about Ed Wood and was intrigued about this mans drive despite his lack of talent. I like the characterization displayed. A lot more fun than the creepy I imagined.
