Finally got my hands on the
Edge of Tomorrow DVD yesterday from the library and it was worth the wait it took to get here. I was hoping for pure escapism and this delivered in a bit way. The special fx of course is amazing and the story, a cross between
Groundhog Day and
Gears of War was superb. There isn't anything that I can find at fault with here. Sure, they went with a happy ending, but it's expected with these types of Tent Pole flicks from Hollywood. One thing I find veyr surprising was the humor. Whnen you think of the names
Tom Cruise or Sci-fi, the last thing you expect to do is laugh. But there were a handful of funny moments that made me do that very thing and it was a welcome change. I've never read
All You Need Is Kill, so I don't know what was changed or not during translation to an American film. But I do know that because of the movie, I'm very interested in picking it up. Hopefully my
Library has a copy. Other reasons to check out
Edge of Tomorrow would be
Emily Blunt and
Bill Paxton. I couldn't help but make the connections to Aliens because he was commander of a
J Squad that bore a passing similarity to the platoon in
Aliens. Definitely worth a
Rent. Watching the movie, I kept trying to pinpoint who the director was. Went through a whole list of potential candidates. I wasn't even close when I saw the end credits. He sure has come a long way from his humble beginnings with
Swingers. I've always liked him as a director, but I had no idea he had done this until the end.
