I'm trying to remember what I thought about the movie.  Haven't really felt much of a ned to revisit it since it came out.  I liked the book fine (though in my head, it looked more like Blade Runner/2010: The Year We Make Contact)... it would have been a real neat flick in the 80s when video games were becoming big.  In some parallel universe we got this flick instead of The Last Straighter.

Was the ending... was that ta big surprise for you?  In the book it's a bit more of a shock, in part because the simulation was so basic, green and red dots and lines on a few screens instead of a hyper-realistic thing.  And they made this whole thing about how long it takes ships to get to that planet, even with radio signals, so that you don't think they even COULD orchestrate an attack like that until they reveal that the tech already exists (it's what allows that video game to communicate telepathically).

A huge chunk of the book got cut out and compressed... not that the book was spectacular or anything, but the slow pace and long time frame (Ender trains for, like, ten years, not ten days) were kind of integral.

As for the flick itself... it's fine.  Actually, it's what I would have liked the Star Trek reboot to have looked like...

Actually, I want to watch this and Star Trek Into Darkness back-to-back, I got a head canon going on where Benedict Cumberbatch in Trek is an adult version of Asa Butterfield's character.
