Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Special 2 Disc Set[b
]Trailer[/b]
There are so many good things about this movie. In no particular order they are
Jim Carrey (Joel), Kate Winslet (Clementine), Charlie Kaufman and
Michel Gondry. Personally, I think out of all of the dramatic roies that
Jim has done, this is by far his best.
Kate is just awesome in this one and of course you have a mind trip with anything
Kaufman writes. I was a huge fan of
Gondry's music videos and his transition into films was long overdue. Even though this was his 2nd feature, he really didn't breakout into the mainstream with the public at large until
Spotless Mind became a critical darling. I can guarantee you no one at the time could name his first feature:
Human Nature.
The beginning is the end and the end is the beginning.
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is a quirky movie from the brilliant mind of
Charlie Kaufman. If you have seen any of the movies he has written, then you know your in for a trip. How best to describ a
Kaufman film or better yet, this one? A mind f u c k comes to.....
mind.
I won't sugarcoat it and say this movie is for everyone. I think it's geared more toward those that like something different from the massed produced assembly line product out of Hollywood. It's definitely not for everyone. But for me, I love movies like this. Give me something that rewards me for paying attention and being able to work at keeping the narrative in line and not getting lost and I'm happy.
I think the concept of
Spotless Mind is definitely thought-provoking in dissecting love and relationships. It would be so easy to just erase every bad relationship from existence and not have to deal with the heartache that comes after. But if you do that, you are taking away something, good or bad, that shapes who you become. I've had my share of relationships that really stung after a breakup and would want nothing more than to forget her. But over time, I am able to look back on it and enjoy the good times and not dwell on the bad and just move on and start fresh again. And that's exactly what this movie is about in a nutshell. Trying to explain a
Kaufman movie is pointless. Just check it out for yourself. Stick with it and be rewarded at the end.
I highly recommend this as a Rent for sure. But if you like quirky films that make you think, then this is definitely a Buy,
