Haywire (2011)
« on: July 21, 2012, 11:05:05 pm »

Haywire is a horrible movie. I expected a lot better from Steven Soderbergh. There are so many things wrong with this movie that I'm at a complete loss for words in how someone with the credentials of Soderbergh could produce  s h i t  like this. Where to begin? First off, the way the movie was structured was unnecessary. I get that the idea to keep the reveal hidden to the end is what prompted this. But there are better ways of going about this. Also, Steven, you are no Tarantino. Leave it to those that actually have an understanding of how to use the fractured narrative to tell a story. Also, the plot was pretty weak and thin to begin with. The characters were cliches and I just didn't care for anyone, especially Mallory (Gina Carano).

But I think the biggest thing that really drove me up the walls was Steven's decision to basically use the same score that he used brilliantly in the Ocean's Eleven movies. In that, the music fit perfectly. But in Haywire, it brought undue attention to itself. What a wasted 2 hours of my life.  F u c k  you Soderbergh!

SKIP!

Skip

I wonder what the thinking was behind this?

Was this a, hey lts use this awesome WWF wrestler and build a story around it because the audiences want a female Bourne character?

I don't think Gina Carano has ever been employed by WWE. I know her mainly from the MMA world and I can't recall if she's ever even been a guest star on RAW or Smackdown. Anyway, I don't blame her for the end result of the movie. It was a bad script and I thought the dialogue was horrible. I won't go into what I think of Steven's choices as a director again. Just see the main post for that. It's unfair that he most likely wrecked her chances at a Hollywood career because of his poor choices when putting this movie together. Because she is the star of the film, she is going to take all the bullets of derision.

Didn't you do a review of the movie Mac? I searched for it but I couldn't find it. If you find it, copy it here so I can read it. Thanks.

WWF, WWE, MMA, it's Ll the same to me

Anyway, I thought I wrote something. If I did I'm sure it was very short because of how bad I thought it was. I can't find it either. Hmmmmm, maybe I didn't

You definitely did because I remember commenting on the low rating you gave it.
