I haven't seen
Fallen in years. How long has it been? It was so long ago that I didn't even remember or know that both
James Gandolfini and
Aida Turturro were in this. You know them better as
Tony and
Janice from
The Sopranos, which would debut a year later after this movie. As for the movie itself, I remember digging it for the most part when I saw it way back when. But what about now? Well, so much time has gone by that the only thing I remembered about the movie was the clever ending. Other than that...nothing.
That is until the movie started. As soon as I saw
Elias Koteas as
Reese dancing and strutting to the
Rolling Stone's Time Is on My Side, it all came rushing back and therein lies the problem with mystery/thrillers. They have to transcend the genre to make them re-watchable like
Se7en. Otherwise, it's just an average film that has no replay value after its initial viewing.
Fallen is better than average and
Denzel Washington is good in this one doing a great job of holding together a plot that really ask you suspend your disbelief for it to work. But knowing what is coming around the corner, it doesn't quite do it for me this second time around. If you have never seen this one before and you like Supernatural Thrillers, by all means give this one a
Rent. It's worth it for sure. But I doubt you will ever feel the need to watch this one again.
