Firefly (Season 1 - 2002)

Trailer

What can I say about Firefly that hasn't already been said a million times before? There is a reason why the series is beloved by so many people, myself included. For starters, the cast they assembled; Nathan Fillion, Gina Torries, Adam Baldwin, Ron Glass, Jewel Staite, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher and Summer Glau was 'Lightening in a bottle' good. I remember the first time I saw the Pilot of the series and was immediately drawn to each one. Besides being great actors, each and every character is immensely enjoyable, mysterious, endearing and just all around kick-ass. Early on into the season, you felt that each character had a wealth of back story to them, even if they only touched upon it lightly. So, that in itself is reason for people to get bent out of shape at the cancellation of Firefly. What could have been.....

But it goes deeper than that. It's realizing that FOX, the dumb asses they are, just shot themselves in the foot by pulling the plug on something great that was building to something even larger with its mythology. The key ingredient that tied it all together was of course River Tam. We got a few hints throughout the season of what she was, but it's not until the final episode did it really take a huge leap forward with where and what this show could be. Easily the best episode of the season and getting the news the show was done, of course people were going to riot. If you have never seen Firefly (I highly doubt that in this day and age), I urge you to pick up a copy of the entire season. Go Buy it now! Awesome writing, fantastic special fx and a nice variety of old time westerns mixed in with Sci-Fi elements. Did I mention that it's also funny? If you're a fan of Joss Whedon, you will get your fix of his trademark style of writing and witty dialogue. Now....go get it!

Still blows my mind that Firefly is 12 years old already!! Damn!!

Firefly (Publicity Shoot #1)

Most shows, when they assemble a cast, usually do Publicity Shoots before a single frame of film is filmed for the series. I always get a kick out of this particular image when they were clearly working on the "look" of River. The Cornrows still look.....corny. I'm glad they didn't go down that road.

Well, she couldn't just be naked in a box!

Did you see the ones in the Blade Runner-looking house?  The one from the Rocketeer/Joel Silver's old place?

I gotta doodle those walls. A couple days ago, I was trying to draw sci-fi hallways, the ones made up of pallets and grills.  It's TOUGH!

I need to dig up some more Hi Rez images of the photo-shoot. I think I have a few more on an external hard drive.

Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk Turn to Crowdfunding For ‘Con Man’

I am SO down for this!! Make this happen!! Since this will be a ways off, I'm gonna post it here until there is an official word on the series. When that happens, I'll start an official thread for it. I expect to see cameos from EVERYONE involved with Firefly.

Now, they made a REAL effort to point out that the fans are nice, regular people.  I think whenever people try to do shows or anything about conventions, they make the fans weird as well (No Nerds Here did this, I think) and I don't like that.  First, it seems like an easy target, but it's so easy to get cliched and wrong that it's just not funny.  It's an awful comparison to make, but convention attendees in media compared to regular people are like Dong in Sixteen Candles compared to actual asian people.  So I like the idea that they're avoiding that, that means a lot.
