I went into Flight expecting one kind of movie and getting something else all together. In a way, I got duped by the Trailer and it's clear that this was deliberate on the part of the PR department. They had to play this up as an 'Action' flick, because who really wants to sit through an entire movie where there is no sympathy toward the main character of Whip (Denzel Washington), the pilot who "saves the day" by landing a 747 in a very unconventional way. Sure, he save a lot of souls on board with his acrobatic flying. But the guy still piloted the plane drunk and high on coke. There is no sympathy whatsoever.

The bulk of the movie centers around him basically trying to convince everyone else that it was a mechanical failure and had nothing to do with being inebriated. And while people close to him are trying to help him, he's still boozing it up like there is no tomorrow. No sympathy from me. Denzel is great, but at the end of the day, the movie is one giant downer. There are really only two scenes that stand out. First is Nadine Velazquez doing the full monty. Yowwza! My Name is Earl Chip....give me a call.  The second of course is the plane crash. Worth a Rent, but don't be fooled by the Trailer. I do think the movie is overrated. Cast also includes Kelly Reilly, John Goodman, Don Cheadle, Melissa Leo and Bruce Greenwood.

I didn't hate the movie, but I sure was pissed. I don't understand why Flight got so much praise. As Chip points out, this is a lowlife character that puts a ton of people around him at risk. I certainly don't need movies that end all nice and sweet, but I sure don't need a movie, IMO, trying to justify anything he does. There is nothing redeemable about watching this movie.

Got a jerk, constantly doing jerk things... to others.

I'll never watch this flick again.
