Tombstone
Two-Disc Vista Series

Trailer

To me, Tombstone is the best Western ever made. Sure, there are a handful of other westerns that get all the accolades, most recently being Unforgiven, which I do consider to be up there with the best of them. But Tombstone just seems to hit the nail on the head with the way the movie was put together. Kurt Russell is fantastic as Wyatt Earp and Sam Elliot and Bill Paxton held their own as his brothers Virgil and Morgan. But the movie begins and ends with Val Kilmer, who shows what acting is all about. This is a tour-de-force showcase for him and he just OWNED every second of screen time. To me, he absolutely should have been nominated for an Oscar for his role as Doc Holiday. Not only should he have been nominated, he should have won the award outright. There wasn't a better performance by any actor that year. He killed it. It's not surprising that this role was and is his crown jewel in his long and storied career.

Overall, I think Tombstone gets everything right in what makes a great Western movie click. He looks and sounds amazing and the story itself is trimmed of any fat. There isn't a slow moment to be found anywhere. Is it no wonder that most of Hollywood wanted to be a part of the movie? Just look at the cast that includes Powers Boothe, Michael Biehn, Jason Priestley, Paul Ben-Victor, Dana Wheeler, Thomas Haden Church, Michael Rooker, Dana Delany, Paula Malcomson, Harry Carey, Jr., Billy Bob Thornton, Billy Zane, John Corbett, Frank Stallone and Billy Zane. It even has Charlton Frickin' Heston in this one!! Even Robert Mitchum gets in on the action as the Narrator and Glenn Fordwas attached to the movie early on before bowing out. That's some serious street cred right there. I highly recommend this movie as a Buy just for Val Kilmer's performance. It's THAT good.

I'm your huckleberry. I've been quoting that line since seeing this in the theater and rightly so. It's awesome and works in any situation you find yourself in.
