Frailty

Trailer

Aside from the strong word of mouth about Frailty when the movie first came out, which prompted me to buy the DVD, I haven't heard so much as a peep about the movie since then. To say this is an underrated film is an understatement. I think psychological thriller like this one are "scarier" than your typical horror flicks which rely too much on the cartoonish characters to drive the plot. But you take an ordinary man and turn him into a murdering disciple of God and it's going to invoke emotions one way or another. There are people like the character that Bill Paxton plays out there in the workd and that in itself gives me chills. To have someone willingly search for "signs" to justify carrying out his 'mission' would send everyone running the other way.

I really want to talk about this in detail, but to do so would seriously harm the narrative and spoil the twist ending that comes in the 3rd Act. All I will say is that this is a fantastic movie with sharp writing, a tight plot and very interesting characters to keep you engaged from start to finish. There isn't one wasted moment at all. Great cast as well that includes Matthew McConaughey and Powers Booth and the two kids that drive the story as played by Matt O'Leary and Jeremy Sumpter. If you haven't seen this, check it out. October and Halloween make this a perfect time to do so.

I maybe passed this up before because it appears to be more thriller, psycho vs. horror.

I dunno, not sure why I've passed this up.
